Research
Ask what you want to know, not what an index calls it
Research here is a question, answered with the sources named. The jurisdiction comes from the matter, the registers are checked first, and anything that does not resolve is marked unverified rather than left in the paragraph.
- Three legal systems, kept apart
- England and Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland are researched separately. On an English matter, Scottish authority is not cited, not searched for and not offered as a comparison.
- Every citation checked against the register
- Statutes are resolved on legislation.gov.uk and judgments on Find Case Law before they reach you. What does not resolve is marked, not hidden.
- The web, where the books do not settle it
- Practice guidance, fee levels and form versions move faster than the statute books. Those are searched on the open web, with the page and its address named.
The jurisdiction lock
The matter decides the law, not the model
The jurisdiction is resolved from the connecting factors at intake and carried with the matter. It is supplied to the research tools as a fact. A model is never asked which system applies and never allowed to choose.
- Different vocabulary, not a regional setting
- Pursuer and defender, not applicant and respondent. Section 11 orders, not section 8. A minute of agreement, not a consent order. The packs hold the words as well as the law.
- Outgoing drafts are scanned
- A draft carrying another system's vocabulary is blocked before it leaves, not flagged for somebody to notice.
- Honest about coverage
- Find Case Law does not cover Scotland or Northern Ireland. The product says so when you ask, rather than returning an English judgment and hoping.

With a document
Send the agreement with the question
Upload the document and ask whether it binds. Bring it in from a connected Drive or Google Docs if that is where it lives. The answer is about that document, with the page each point came from.
- From the computer or from a drive
- The picker offers your own machine and whichever of Drive, Docs and Sheets you have connected. Nothing is downloaded to a laptop on the way.
- Read against the law, not in isolation
- The provisions are pulled from the register and applied to the clause in front of you, with the section quoted rather than paraphrased.
- Saved to the matter, or not
- A research answer can be saved to the matter as an analysis, with its sources, or left where it is. Nothing is filed on your behalf.
Sources
No list of logos, and no shelf of databases
There is no source picker to configure and no subscription to reconcile. You ask a question; the assistant decides which registers and which pages are needed, reads them, and then tells you which it used.
- Legislation, at the provision
- Sections are read at their own URL on legislation.gov.uk with the numbering intact, so a quotation is the text and not a summary of it.
- Judgments, where they are published
- Find Case Law for England and Wales. Where a judgment is not there, the answer says the citation could not be verified rather than describing a case it has not read.
- The strip is the bibliography
- What it read is listed under the answer, each item clickable. If a source is not in the strip, it did not inform the answer.

The limits
Said as plainly as the claims
It is not a legal database
Numo does not republish a licensed corpus. It reads the official registers and the open web, which is why it can say honestly where coverage stops.
It is not advice
The answer is research for a regulated person to weigh. Responsibility for advice stays with the person who gives it.
Unverified is a visible state
An authority that does not resolve is marked, and a draft carrying one cannot pass the approval gate.
No comparative law by accident
Another jurisdiction is only discussed if you ask for it explicitly on a matter where that makes sense.
Asked before buying
- Does it hallucinate citations?
- Citations are resolved against the register before they are shown. One that does not resolve is displayed as unverified and blocks approval of any draft that carries it, so an invented authority cannot travel any further than the panel it appeared in.
- Can I use it on a Scottish matter?
- Yes. Scotland has its own knowledge pack, its own vocabulary and its own procedure. What it cannot do is search a Scottish judgment database that does not have a public interface, and it says so rather than pretending.
- Is the research recorded?
- Every question, the sources read and the answer are recorded against the matter with the name of whoever asked, in plain English, in the same audit trail as everything else.
